A Desert on the move....

Let me assure you that not everything in the desert is dried up...




If you look close enough, you will see life everywhere!



By the way, that is a Tarantula Wasp --and let me tell you that he is over 2 inches long!

You definitely don't want to meet him in a dark alley (plus he's known for killing tarantulas - GEEZ!)  

Lucky for you I risked life and limb to creep closer for a better shot....



Look at his gorgeous blue coloring!  (Look at your thumb.  Now look at the Tarantula Wasp - SAME SIZE!)



And maybe a desert dweller that's just itty bitty?



As we were getting back in the car from our hike,  a road runner RAN ACROSS THE ROAD.

Anyone else see the humor in that? 


 Hello...?

So of course I grabbed my camera and followed him.  (And yes, I looked for cars before crossing...)



He flew up on a fence so I cautiously crept closer....

Snapped a few photos and inched closer.....until I spooked him and then:



He jumped!




(Can you see that he has a lizard in his mouth?  Maybe he thought I was there to steal his breakfast?)




And then he started running!

And although it's not the most dynamic and in focus photo I've ever taken, I do think it captures him well enough to see the resemblance:
