Hoover Dam and The Colorado River Bridge

So I mentioned yesterday that we're theatre people.

We are also SCIENCE-ish people.

Techie things interest us, so we made sure we drove out to Hoover Dam and the new Colorado River Bridge.  (Isn't it a thing of beauty?  2,000 feet long and 900 feet above the Colorado River.)

Now look closely at the top right corner of the bridge in that first photo....do you see those teeny tiny little people looking over the edge?

Well - look how windy it is up there:

But the view and the 'coolness' of it all makes it a worthwhile stop!

Then we headed down to Hoover Dam and signed up for the underground, (or should I say, inside the dam) tour.

Yep - you go down 500+ feet inside on the dam tour.  :P

These are the generators - the dam provides clean power for Nevada, Arizona and California!

Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is on the border between Arizona and Nevada.   It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression.   Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives.
