PB and J with a twist

Found a cute little "recipe" for a fancy peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and just had to give it a try!

(I think this would be a fun Valentine's treat, don't you? And I bet little ones would have a ball making these!)

Gather a few ingredients:

First let's talk bread.

You can cut regular ole sliced bread with a cookie cutter or use one of the Pampered Chef fancy bread tubes and a tube of french bread...

Whichever way you choose, cut the shapes from the bread and lay them out.

Now put some creamy peanut butter into a ziplock bag

And cut off the teeny little corner of the bag....

Waaa-LAAAA you have a piping bag!

Now very carefully, or very messily --whichever you prefer---

Outline the bread with a line of peanut butter.

Now get yourself some jelly.

And spoon that jelly into the center of your peanut butter outline....

Go ahead and fill that in with all that yumminess!

A Brief History of PB and J sandwich..Food historians have seen nothing written about the peanut butter and jelly sandwich before 1940. What we do know is that GI's in WW 2 were given rations of both peanut butter and jelly. When they returned to the states after the war peanut butter sales and jelly sales both soared. It would seem most likely this would be the birth of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Cute! I love the PC scalloped bread tube. I usually only use it for special occasions so you are inspiring me to use it on Sunday:)
