House with a view

We spent a wonderful morning visiting the Cabrillo National Monument and the nearby Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Talk about beautiful views!!!!!! WOW! Photobucket Want to hear a funny story about the lighthouse? You DO? Great! Photobucket It was built in 1855 and stands 422 feet above sea level. Unfortunately low clouds and fog kept obscuring the beam (and THAT is not a good thing for a lighthouse!) So they had to close down the lighthouse in 1891 and build one down at sea level. (Talk about a huge OOPS!) Luckily they kept the old one for future generations to admire. Photobucket The views from the bluff were incredible! We were hoping to see some Pacific Gray whales passing by the shores on their annual migration from Alaska to Baja California, Mexico, but we didn't see any today....rats! Photobucket At the foot of the bluffs are our protected tide pools. Here's a glimpse of them, but you're gonna have to wait until tomorrow to see some of the creatures that call tide pools home. Photobucket And did I mention we stopped for a fresh seafood lunch on the way home? Photobucket ***Alaskan cod, shrimp and crab cake combo with cole slaw and crispy fries....diet coke to wash it all down properly (I needed something low-cal to counter-act lunch!) It's a rough life but someone's gotta do it....!
